Abstract

Puppetry which passes down cultural elements from generation to next generation and reflects
our traditions is prominent regarding its giving way to triggering manual labor and international cultural. Although the origin of the puppetry is not exactly known, it has continued its existence as an effective art by interacting with each other in many cultures and also beliefs emerging from ancient times since the early ages. Since there is no definite and written information about how and where the art of puppetry was born, different and contradictory theories about this topic are in question as an intense speculation source. The puppet has completed its own characteristic development in cultures from different times, gained various figures and techniques and reached today’s artistic qualities. The art of Puppetry was probably born from wizardry and religious ceremonies, just like the drama. Puppet shows take place in order to entertain people and make them laugh. Moreover, they can reflect cultural values and political issues of a country. With a rooted history, the art of puppetry, which is used with different purposes, still exists today. The
role of puppets in tourism is effective in our country and also in many countries; therefore this issue has been chosen as paper topic. Pper topic is summarized by assuming the puppet’s rooted history in Turkey, their current use, international studies and their role and effect in tourism will result in positive outcomes.
