DETERMINING THE PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE AND BEHAVIOR OF NURSES

Abstract

This research was realized as descriptive with the objective of determining the professional attitudes and behavior of nurses. The environment for the research was the Ministry of Health Hospital (SB) located in the province of Istanbul Asian side, and also nurses who are employees in a private hospital. Sampling group of the research was selected by using purposeful sampling method. (N=250) Data was collected with a questionnaire form consisting of two sections. In the first section, a total of 23 questions were included containing data of demographic characteristics and professional opinions of nurses. In the second section, the measure “Professional Attitude Inventory in the Profession” (MPTE) regarding the determination of professional attitude and behavior of nurses consisting of 32 expressions was used. Evaluation of data was realized with SPSS 15,0 statistical analysis program and in computer environment. As statistical method; number, percentage, average, in independent groups t test and variant analysis, Kruskal Wallis analysis and in advanced analysis Tukey HSD test and Bonferroni corrected Mann Whitney U analysis were used. The mean score of the Professional Attitude Inventory in the Occupation of the nurses who participated in the study was found to be 139.94(±14.63) at a moderate level.It was determined that the genders of the nurses included in the scope of the research, the institute and department they worked at, position they were employed, those who participated in scientific events in and outside the institute, loving their profession and satisfaction, following professional publications also affected their professional attitude. (p<0,05).
